I was reminded this week what a precious time this is for the whole world as we are about to celebrate Christ’s resurrection.
As Palm Sunday was last week marking the beginning of Holy week, it took me back to some sweet memories I have as a child. I grew up in a swampy part of Florida where different types of palm trees abound.
Each Palm Sunday, to remember and celebrate Jesus, we folded palm fronds into small crosses and handed them out to whoever would take them. I can remember the excitement this brought as I knew that Easter was right around the corner. And as a kid, that meant a new Easter dress, candy, hunting for eggs, and a big chocolate bunny. My mama would make a great feast of ham, devilled eggs, potato salad, green salad, and various and sundry desserts to be devoured after church on Easter as well.
It was a joyous time. I’m grateful for those memories and for my mama making it such a special time for our family. Her love and hard work that went into the celebration of Easter was ALL in honor of Jesus.
As Easter Sunday approaches, let’s truly remember why we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. What does that really mean for us?
It means that we can know God through the Holy Spirit. It means that when we mess up, God shows us grace through His forgiveness.
Jesus took on the sins of the whole world when He was killed on Good Friday. And three days later, He rose to heaven to be seated at the right hand of the Father.
We celebrate not for candy, the Easter bunny and colored eggs, okay we kind of do, but for the ultimate sacrifice Father God and His Son were willing to give the whole world when Christ died a torturous, human death on the cross.
"And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again" (Mark 8:31 ESV).
Let's be thankful for the ultimate sacrifice God has given us in His son. Happy memory making and happy Easter!
Be blessed,
