Put on the Whole Armor of God

by Allison Dillaberry

Have you ever had one of those days that you can’t see how things will get any better? Someone you love is terminally ill or your husband or wife left you. I have had more than my fair share of days just like that.

Depression can really stop us in our tracks and keep us from the wonderful life God has planned for us. The devil loves to keep us ( I call it the 4 D’s) distracted, depressed, disassociated, and discouraged. But when I’m feeling these things or feeling down, God gives us a way to fight back.

We can put on the whole armor of God. We can practice saying this scripture out loud and actually visually see ourselves putting on the armor as if we are getting dressed in the morning. This is an amazing verse to have memorized and in our arsenal to fight evil. If you don’t have it memorized. Do it, I promise you won’t regret it.

Ephesians 14-18 ESV says,

“ Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

We can practice putting this armor on our body and thinking about the power of God and how it surrounds us as we wear the armor. Also, imagine holding up the shield of faith that God says extinguishes ALL of the arrows of the devil, not just some of them. And don’t forget, God’s words (your sword) are what you use to fight back the devil’s schemes. Speak out loud to the devil God’s words and declare God’s power through his words. Believe me the devil doesn’t stand a chance when you do this.

Some other quick and easy things to do are to find at least one thing you can be thankful to God for and praise Him for it. Praise is another powerful way to fight off the schemes of the devil.

Also, find one thing you can hope for in your future. And remember always that God is so so good, and he has good things planned for you. Every good and perfect thing comes down from the father in heaven.

I hope this gives you a few tricks in your bag to fight off the blues. Remember, put on the armor of God, find something to thank God for, and put your hope in Him.

Be Blessed,
